PORTLAND -- Coffee Bean International opened what it billed as the first green coffee headquarters in the Pacific Northwest, Tuesday in Northeast Portland.
The company’s new office and roasting facility at 9120 NE Alderwood Road is in a LEED-certified building.
LEED Silver Certification means that the building is 20 % more energy efficient than local code. An onsite water filtration system cleans roof water for other use. All paints and carpets are low Volatile Organic Compound.
Coffee Bean International has 150 employees and plans to roast over 13 million pounds of coffee in 2008 for more than 2,000 customers.
