Film, video a $1.39 billion boon to Oregon economy

SALEM, Ore. -- The Oregon film industry is having a major effect on the state economy, generating $1.39 billion last year.

A report commissioned by the Governor's Office of Film & Television shows that's a 41 percent increase over 2005.

The direct economic effect was $709 million, an increase of 43 percent. The rest was the estimated indirect impact on the economy.

The study shows more than 13,300 people employed in jobs supporting the film industry, earning an annual wage 34 percent higher than the state average.

Films recently shot in Oregon include "Without a Paddle II," "The Road," "Twilight" and "Burning Plain." "The Disembodied" films in Portland in September.
