SYDNEY, Australia - Qantas Airways Ltd. said Friday it has canceled orders for 15 Boeing 787 Dreamliners and delayed the delivery of another 15 aircraft due to turbulent market conditions.

But Australia's flagship carrier says it remains committed to the new carbon fiber jetliner.

Qantas says it has reached an agreement with the Boeing Co. to defer the delivery of 15 Boeing 787-8 aircraft by four years and cancel orders for 15 Boeing 787-9s scheduled for delivery in 2014/2015.

Airline Chief Executive Alan Joyce says the discussions with Boeing were not influenced by the announcement this week of a further delay to the aircraft's first flight.

On Tuesday, Boeing canceled the first test flight of the 787, saying it needs to reinforce small areas near the connection of the wings and fuselage.
