Pyramid Breweries to be acquired by Magic Hat
12:54 PM PDT on Wednesday, April 30, 2008
SEATTLE (AP) -- The Magic Hat brewing company of South Burlington, Vermont, is buying Seattle's Pyramid Breweries for about $35 million.
Pyramid CEO Scott Barnum says the sale will have a minimal impact on its 500 employees.
Pyramid Breweries
Pyramid's main breweries are in Portland and Berkeley, California. It sells Pyramid and MacTarnahan's brands, mostly in 13 Western states.
Magic Hat sells its "No. 9" and other brews from Maine to Georgia and as far west as Illinois.
Pyramid, which produces beers primarily under the Pyramid and MacTarnahan's brands and sells mostly in the West -- says the companies complement each other geographically.
