Electronic tax returns set record in Oregon
11:57 AM PDT on Thursday, April 24, 2008
PORTLAND, Ore. -- Electronic tax returns hit the one million mark in Oregon this year.
The Oregon Department of Revenue says a Cannon Beach taxpayer set the record on April 15th.
The department has received 1.6 million state income tax returns for the 2007 tax year so far, and 64 percent of them have been filed electronically.
Revenue officials expect more than 1.8 million returns this year.
Last year, 983,000 of the 1.76 million returns were e-filed. That's about 56 percent.
Electronic filing was first offered to professional tax preparers in 1993, then to individuals in 1998.
