Portland Airport gives compost to travelers
08:21 AM PDT on Friday, April 18, 2008
PORTLAND, Ore. -- That's not just your dirty laundry that smells funny.
Travelers returning through Portland International Airport Friday will be offered free compost as part of the Port of Portland's celebration of its environmental efforts.
Airport restaurants, flight kitchens, airlines and nearby businesses turn a ton of food waste a day into compost.
The port will distribute hundreds of bags of the free compost to interested travelers from 10 a.m. until all of it is gone.
Interested travelers can find them on the skybridges that connect the airport terminal to the parking garage.
