Coast Starlight line back in Klamath Falls
08:01 AM PDT on Thursday, April 17, 2008
KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. -- A passenger train arrived at the Klamath Falls Amtrak station for the first time in nearly three months.
Its arrival Wednesday signaled the restart of north and southbound Amtrak service on the Coast Starlight line between Seattle and Los Angeles.
Coast Starlight line stopped January 19 after severe mudslides on Coyote Mountain north of Chemult destroyed a portion of Union Pacific tracks.
The section of rail from Klamath Falls to Eugene will remain closed until remaining debris is cleared from the track. Amtrak uses Union Pacific rail lines.
Two passenger trains will operate on a regular schedule north and southbound between Los Angeles and Klamath Falls.
