Authorities seized the fakes late Monday night.
The Chicago man, Chukwuemeka Ebelechukwu, is a Nigerian native living in Chicago.
He's been charged with the unlawful use of a trademark. Police officer Carol McGee says the shoes are valued at $1.1 million dollars. Most of the shoes were Air Force Ones and Air Jordans.
She says the man allegedly sold the shoes to small local stores.
Nike spokeswoman Vada Manager says it's not the largest seizure of fake Nikes. In July 2005, police in New York seized more than 27,000 worth about $2 million dollars.
