From the car you drive to the cell phone you dial and just about everything else you use was created on a computer.

And most it was designed using using software created by Autodesk in Lake Oswego. It's software that is now the necessity as the Mother of Invention.

When you walk into the fifth floor offices at Autodesk you're greeted by a display of products all made with the company's inventor software.

Guitars, a wheelchair, headphones, video game controller and even a jackhammer. It show the diversity of products this software is used for to create everyday items.

"We cover everything that is created or invented," said Buzz Kross, Senior Vice President of Manufacturing.

The software is used by companies worldwide to step up the manufacturing process. Products can now be designed totally on computer. The software can even determine the cost of production.

Once a digital prototype is made, it can go right to manufacturing. Eliminating the cost of producing a real 3d model saves time and money.

"You can test what it's gonna look like, where it's gonna fail, how the mechanisms work and how much stress it will display". notes Kross.

Kross says ever car made in the world uses Autodesk's software.

"It costs millions to make a car, they can produce those things digitally and executives can look at them and decide which car to make, what it's going to look like before they build it".

Kross says that many of the products that we take for granted could never have been produced with out the aid of this software.

"It would be impossible in today's world to design the complex systems that customers need".
