PORTLAND, Ore. -- A new study finds that Oregon's software industry is poised for substantial job growth over the next decade.

The Software Association of Oregon commissioned the economic impact analysis.
It predicts that the number of software jobs here will increase by 18 percent by 2014.
The head of the association says the study also shows that those jobs pay twice the average wage of most industries. Those higher wages could then have a ripple effect on the economy -- an estimated 13.2 jobs created for every 10 software jobs.
The Software Association unveiled the report in Salem this week to let legislators know how important the sector is for Oregon, and so they have a baseline for the future.
