Whether near or far, summer is the travel season if you can afford it.

And amid record high gas prices, many destinations will reward you.

Paula Hobble with Focus on Travel in Beaverton says a slow economy can work in your favor.

“People have a hotel, they have an airline they have to keep people traveling. You will find deals because of that,” she said.

Some of the biggest summer deals are in Mexico. And Hawaii is rolling out the welcome mat with price cuts.

“Look for all inclusive, children perhaps under the age of 12, 15 having their meals included, she said. “Where you might have the fifth night free, in Hawaii, you'll have the third night free.

If your travel plans are flexible you'll pocket the savings.

“You might have to look different days of the week, for example mid week or late flights something that is not as desirable,” Hobble said.

And look for package deals on cars and hotels -- and check for upgrades or ask for one when you arrive.

Even online travel services are dealing to offset higher priced flights. Priceline has a sunshine guarantee for travel this summer that includes 100 destinations -- even Seattle. There are restrictions.

Booking with Orbitz could mean cash in your pocket, and Expedia is offering free gas.

Cruises are dealing too, early booking or last minute you could save even more...

Some Las Vegas hotels will give you credit in the casino.

And some trips to Europe can be booked now with prices locked in for next year.

Remember, when booking your summer travel ask for a deal -- or it's no deal.
