For the first time in eight years area home builders are returning to Portland for it's 33rd show.

Despite a housing market that's on the downhill, this year's show is climbing one, to the city's highest point to make a point, that home builders have a lot to show off.

"There's Mount Adams, St. Helens right there". said Gregory Heinze outside on the deck of his fifth Street of Dreams home he's building. The views are the highlight and the backyards of the Altamont area of Mt. Scott. It's the last neighborhood before you touch the sky. "Up here at night is just spectacular".said Heinze.

It will take some 500 construction and craftsmen to bring the Sonoma house from a dream to reality. Heinze wanted to reflect some of what he call that Northern California light bright feeling.

Eighty-five surround the 6423 square foot home, revealing sweeping views that are the hallmark of each of this year's six homes.

The Sonoma is the only home built on spec in this years show. Home builders aren't taking a chance. Last year's Street of Dreams home built in Oregon City are still on the market. None have sold.

Dave Nielsen, CEO for the Home Builders Association says this is a challenging time for anyone in the home-building business. Nelsen blames last year's location as one reason the home didn't sell. It was too far from the city. "And that combined with the market that happened, you've got homes that are just waiting for the right buyer". said Nielsen.

That's the hope for this year's latest entry. It's called the Cherithbrook. It's the largest home in the show at eleven thousand square feet. It's also the most expensive at 2.95 million dollars.

It's already on the market. Toni Sunseri is the realtor with ERA. She says she'll market the home in forty-four countries. Sunseri says the home would be perfect for an entertainer.

It has a very Northwest feel. A large fountain on the beck deck is the centerpiece.

Inside the master bedroom suite is the marble bath. It's just one of six and half baths in the four bedroom home. Downstairs is a wine room for hundreds of bottles.

"We have an exercise room, we have a massage room and an indoor pool, sauna, a second kitchen, large family room and a secret media room, behind a hidden panel". said Sunseri.

For thirty three years area home builders have had big dreams sharing ideas and trends and this year despite a slumping housing market, they're not holding back.

The NW Natural Street Off Dreams opens August 16th and runs through September 14th.
