7-7-7 a lucky hit for wedding planners

What normally is a quiet time for weddings, July is turning into a record month for I do's.

Just like the one armed bandit in Las Vegas coming up 777, many couples think a walking hand-in-hand down the aisle will mean lucky in love on the seventh day of the seventh month in 2007.

"It's one of those things you don't have to think about 777, so it's very popular" said Krysta McLaughlin, owner of Charlotte's Weddings & More in Beaverton. Brides-to-be have been preparing since January to make sure their wedding dress is ready on time. Krysta and her crew have fifty weddings on Saturday.

As for the grooms, looking good is just as important. "They see themselves all dressed up and and they start getting just as excited as the bride is" said Lin McCaffery. Lin manages Cromwell Formal's downtown. Her store on SW 14th Ave. will be open July 4th to make sure the more than 900 weddings on tap for Saturday are all set.

Portland's wedding planners knew this weekend was going to be big. Following the Portland Bridal show in January, hotels, caterers, florist and everything else needed to pull off this important day started getting booked.

That goes for the all important wedding cake. " It's been a long time since i've been this stressed" according to Carrie Anne Shubert. She's been decorating cakes for 32 years.

This is the busiest July she can remember. In order to fill the 90 cakes for weekend weddings and 75 for Saturday alone, she's called out for help. " we borrowed decorators from other bakeries and icers" said Carrie as she made a rose out of butter cream frosting.

Bakery artisin are working double shifts to make sure for this slice of history, for this once in a lifetime occassion, the bride and groom will have their cake and eat it too.
