SHERWOOD, Ore. -- Sherwood High School junior Shelby Moran is making waves in the world of track and field.

She recently set a state record in the discus with a throw of 162 feet, 10 inches. That’s also the third best throw in the nation this year.

Moran said, “I’ve been training really hard with her club coach and her parents have been providing lots of support.”

She’s also the state leader in the shot put this year.

The throwers are the strength of the Sherwood team this year. Brady Pierce says, “it’s kind of fun knowing that when it comes down to it if we win a meet playing a big part of it is cool.”

The state meet will take place in Eugene later this month.
