The Portland Winterhawks (15-13-0-3) fell 3-2 in Vancouver Friday against the Giants (10-19-0-0).

Vancouver opened the scoring 20 seconds into the game on a goal by Jackson Houck, then made it 2-0 on a power play goal from Carter Popoff at the 8:53 mark. Alex Schoenborn brought the Hawks back within one when he scored during 4-on-4 play at the 14:23 mark to cut the deficit to 2-1, which remained the score going into the second.

After a scoreless second period, Houck scored his second of the night to make it 3-1 for Vancouver with a power play goal 3:02 into the third. Portland again got within one when Miles Koules scored shorthanded at the 4:34 mark as the Hawks cut the deficit to 3-2.

Portland kept applying pressure throughout the period, but were unable to get the equalizer as the Giants escaped with the victory.

Chase De Leo assisted on both Hawks goals to extend his point streak to seven games.

The Hawks return home to host the Everett Silvertips tomorrow night in the Les Schwab Teddy Bear Toss at 7 p.m. at Veterans Memorial Coliseum.
