HAPPY VALLEY, Ore. – A friendly competition between Clackamas County law enforcement and firefighters happened Thursday morning, with a goal of raising money for Operation Santa.

At 6 a.m., a team of Clackamas deputies, with the Happy Valley Police Department and a team of Clackamas firefighters had five minutes to run around the brand new Happy Valley Fred Meyer. They stuffed Thanksgiving dinner items into carts.

The carts will be up for auction on the Happy Valley facebook page, starting Thursday. Bidding starts at zero dollars, because Fred Meyer donated all the food. Bidding ends Friday evening.

All the money raised will be donated to Operation Santa.

The mission of Operation Santa is to collect toys and non-perishable food items, which are used to fill hundreds of food baskets for needy families.

Donated new toys bring a little extra Christmas cheer to children. Donated funds are used to purchase perishable items for food baskets, and help to cover miscellaneous expenses.

Saturday, deputies and firefighters will personally deliver the groceries to the winning bidders.
