PORTLAND, Ore. -- Heck Harper was a fixture on Portland radio and television for decades, entertaining millions with his country and western music cavalcades and later as host of daily children's shows.

By 1965 more than 100,000 kids had been guests on his kids shows and tens of thousands more kids were proud card-carrying "Heck Harper Pioneer Fan Club" members.

He and Jody were fixtures in the Rose Festival Grand Floral Parade as well as parades and events across the west.

The video is a very rare clip from KGW-TV's "Circle Eight Hoedown," a live weekly country and western show originating from the Division Street Corral, a popular dance hall (now defunct) on Portand's east side.
