Across the country, today was a day of remembrance to honor those lost in the attacks on Sept. 11, 16 years ago.

In Portland, firefighters gathered on the East Bank Esplanade to honor the first responders who died in the attack.

Portland Fire and Rescue and the Portland Firefighters Association joined community members for the ceremony.

This year, they also thanked the crews battling wildfires across Oregon and Washington.

They gave special recognition to the firefighters who helped save the Multnomah Falls Lodge last week during the Eagle Creek Fire.
