A woman whose gun allegedly went off inside a busy Portland elementary school cafeteria earlier this month was indicted on three charges by a Multnomah County grand jury.
No one was hurt in the Oct. 4 shooting at Jason Lee Elementary School.
Antoinette A. Riley, 27, was picking up her kids at an after-school program when a gun went off inside her backpack, according to court documents. There were at least 50 kids inside the cafeteria when the gun discharged. Riley immediately left with her kids.
Police detained Riley later that night and booked her into jail the next day.
According to the probable cause affidavit, Riley told a Portland police detective that she had been “shot in the ass.” However, there was evidence of a bullet strike on both a table and bench in the cafeteria, as well as a hole in Riley’s bag, court documents said.
Detectives determined the gun accidentally went off inside Riley’s bag.
Riley is charged with possession of a firearm in a public building, unlawful possession of a firearm and possession of a loaded firearm in public.
