PORTLAND, Ore. -- A 21-year-old woman died after being hit by a MAX train in Beaverton on Monday.
The collision happened at about 9:30 a.m. at 17500 Southwest Baseline Road.
Police on Tuesday identified the woman as Chance Hoyt of Portland.
Police said Hoyt waited for an eastbound train to pass, then ran across the track without looking and was struck by a westbound train.
"This is clearly a marked crossing, but it can be challenging when you have trains that travel in both directions here," said TriMet spokeswoman Roberta Altstadt.
Trimet said the operator hit the brakes immediately and came to an almost-immediate stop after hitting Hoyt. The operator of the train will be put on administrative leave, which is normal procedure.
Passengers on the westbound train were taken off the train and put onto buses.
