HILLSBORO, Ore. -- An inmate charged with sexually assaulting a teenager has cut off his GPS monitor and escaped from a work release program, according to the Washington County Sheriff's Office.

Aaron James Emery, 30, was already serving time for felony assault when he was charged last month with public indecency and sex abuse in a separate case.

He was returned to the Washington County Community Corrections Center to serve out the remainder of the assault sentence in a work release program, but recently cut off his ankle bracelet and failed to return to the center.

Anyone who sees Emery (pictured above) is asked not to approach him, but instead to call 911 immediately. He has a distinctive tattoo on his left hand that deputies hope will assist in identifying him.
