BEAVERTON, Ore. – A small vigil and rally was held in response to the Texas mass shooting Monday evening in Beaverton.

The group Ceasefire Oregon organized the event to mourn the loss of life and to promote action for stricter gun control laws.

Around 15 people gathered for the rally.

Organizers said the mass shootings that have continued for nearly 20 years since the tragedy at Columbine High School have only gotten more catastrophic. They want people to grieve and then call their state and federal lawmakers.

“We want them to tell their legislators to support a ban on high capacity magazines, to ban assault rifles and to require higher standards for gun ownership,” said Penny Okamoto, Executive Director of Ceasefire Oregon.
