PORTLAND, Ore. -- The search in Southeast Portland for an armed robbery suspect has ended and the suspect is now in custody, police say.
Tactical police cordoned off a neighborhood in Southeast Portland on Thursday morning in a search for a 16-year-old armed robber starting at about 4:50 a.m.
Residents in the neighborhood of Southeast 68th Avenue and Rhone Street were told via emergency communications to shelter in place.
“We saw that there were tweets saying don’t leave don’t go out of your neighborhood, everything was roped off, there was multiple police cars out front," said neighbor Holly Burns. “Eventually there were 5 swat guys that came in our backward, and were looking under our deck, they went next door, and I heard them shouting, and police dogs barking, and they said they got him."
The neighborhood safety perimeter has been lifted.
The suspect is thought to have robbed a man in Clackamas County, outside, near SE Courtney Road, west of SE McLoughlin Blvd. More information on the robbery was not available, but police say the suspect knew the victim, and no one was hurt during the robbery.
Police used evidence obtained at the robbery to come to the Southeast Portland intersection in search of a green SUV.
The suspect was described as a white male, age 16, about 5-foot-3 and wearing a black top with white logos and black skinny jeans. He is known to police.
