SALEM, Ore. -- All recreational crabbing is closed along the southern Oregon coast. The Oregon Department of Agriculture and the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife made the announcement on Thursday.
The closure is due to elevated levels of domoic acid. Authorities say domoic acid can cause minor to severe symptoms including dizziness, headaches, vomiting and diarrhea. More severe cases can result in memory loss and death.
Recreational crabbing remains open from Cape Blanco north to the Columbia River.
ODA will continue to test for toxins in the coming weeks. The advisory will be removed when the tested levels of domoic acid are safe.
