MOLALLA, Ore. – A 2-year-old girl was accidentally shot in the cheek on Christmas morning, sheriff's deputies said.

The shooting occurred at a home near Molalla.

A Clackamas County sheriff's deputy told KGW that a family member, who received a gun cleaning kit for Christmas, was cleaning a handgun when it accidentally fired.

The uncle told police he pulled the trigger on the handgun and there was a live round in the chamber. The bullet went through a coffee cup then into the cheek of the child and out the other, according to Sgt. Nathan Thompson with the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office.

He added that the girl's injuries were not life-threatening.

The girl was taken by LifeFlight helicopter to Oregon Health & Science University hospital in Portland.

No criminal charges have been filed and the family is cooperating with detectives.
