Mother of boy with Autism receives gift from stranger

BAINBRIDGE ISLAND - Sometimes the smallest gesture can make a huge difference in someone's day. It happened Monday for Bainbridge Island mother Lauren Copp Nordberg and her young son.

Lauren told the story in a post on Facebook.

"I should have known better than to take my 6.5 year old son (who has Autism) out for lunch after a dentist appointment, but he was so excited for his favorite Madison Diner pancakes and I promised so there was no turning back.

Once at the restaurant he remembered that he forgot something at home that he wanted and within seconds he was in full on autistic meltdown. It was just too much after the anxiety of a dental appointment. We had just ordered our food.

After several minutes of stares from some elderly customers, I took him outside until our food came so he could have his moments without disturbing anyone. Thankfully he calmed down when he saw food, ate the food, then unfortunately amped right back up again.

When I asked the owner for our check, she presented me with this [note.] Someone else had paid our bill. There is good in the world and this mama is thankful for the kindness of strangers on this island. THANK YOU whoever you are!!! You don't know the difference you've made in this autism parent!"
