Naked man attacks Sauvie Island beachgoer

The victim told police the naked suspect came up to him between noon and 3 p.m., upset that the victim's dog was not on a leash.

PORTLAND, Ore. — A man says he was held down and punched repeatedly by an angry naked man at Collins Beach, a popular clothing-optional area near Sauvie Island, on Thursday afternoon.

The victim told police the naked suspect came up to him between noon and 3 p.m., upset that the victim's dog was not on a leash, and attacked him. The assault caused visible injuries.

Oregon State Police say the suspect has reportedly attacked others who had their dogs off-leash in the wildlife area, an area where dogs are supposed to be on a leash.

Beachgoers said they don't typically see people who act that way at the beach.

“It seems a bit uncharacteristic of most people that come here. I've never seen anything like that,” said Tony Empens, who said he regularly spends time at the beach.

The suspect is described as 6-foot-3 with a medium-muscular build. He's about 35-40 years old and has a salt-and-pepper crew cut hairstyle with a receding hairline.

Anyone with information about the suspect is asked to contact OSP Trooper Joe Dezso at joseph.dezso@state.or.us.
