TROUTDALE, Ore. -- Two people were hospitalized after a three-vehicle crash on Northeast Marine Drive Tuesday morning.

The closure of Marine Drive, from Northeast 223rd Avenue to Blue Lake Road, lasted for nearly six hours. The road was reopened Tuesday afternoon.

The crash was reported just east of Blue Lake Road at 8:01 a.m.

Sgt. Bryan White with the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office said two people were sent to the hospital. One of them was taken by helicopter and is in critical condition.

He said the second driver involved had non-life-threatening injuries and the third driver said they didn’t have any injuries.

White said the area has seen crashes before.

“This is an area of Marine Drive, unlike closer into the city where the speed limit is 45, the speed limit here is 55 and so it's common for us to get crashes and vehicles traveling at excessive speed. It's too early to tell right now whether that contributed to this crash, but it's certainly something we look into,” said White.

While it's still early in the investigation, he said it looks like one of the cars may have crossed the center line.
