PORTLAND, Ore. -- A 29-year-old man died early Monday morning after crashing at high speed into a utility pole at Southeast Holgate Boulevard and 118th Avenue, police said.

The dead man's identity has not yet been released.

He was eastbound on Holgate in a 2003 Saturn Vue going "in excess of highway speeds" when he left his lane, police said. He struck a parked SUV which caused the car to spin and crash into a telephone pole and big boulder.

Arriving crews found the Saturn wrapped around the pole. The driver was dead.

The crash remains under investigation. It closed Holgate for several hours.
