DAMASCUS, Ore. – A homeowner and a tenant escaped after lightning started a fire at their house in Damascus early Friday morning.

Firefighters said the homeowner woke up after a loud crash and discovered her attic was on fire. She called 911 and told her tenant to get out of the house.

Neither person was hurt.

Fire investigators believe lightning struck the home’s metal roof near a vent, which helped ignite the fire.

Firefighters extinguished the fire within 30 minutes.
