Delivery driver dies after being hit by taxi driver

A taxi driver taking a fare from Portland International Airport struck a delivery driver early Thursday morning in North Portland, according to Portland police.

PORTLAND, Ore. — A taxi driver taking a fare from Portland International Airport struck a delivery driver early Thursday morning in North Portland, according to Portland police.

Officers were dispatched about 1 a.m. to a report of a person struck by a driver in the 6400 block of Columbia Boulevard.

Medical crews had arrived before them and determined that the person had died at the scene. The man was identified as 77-year-old Larry D. Dill.

Police say the delivery driver had pulled his truck onto the roadway, then got out to close a gate when struck by the taxi driver.

The taxi driver remained at the scene and cooperated with police. Impairment and speed do not appear to be factors, police said.

Columbia Boulevard was closed between 60th Avenue and Cully Boulevard until 5:30 a.m.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Traffic Investigator Phil Maynard at 503-823-2216.
