PORTLAND, Ore. – A bicyclist was under the influence of alcohol when he crashed into a car and was critically injured Wednesday night in Southeast Portland, according to police.
Abdikadir Ahmed Omar, 35, suffered serious head injuries in the crash. He was in serious condition Friday at a Portland hospital.
The collision occurred shortly after 9 p.m. in the 2300 block of Southeast 122nd Avenue. Police said Omar veered out of the bike lane and ran into a car heading the same direction.
Omar was not wearing a helmet during the crash. Investigators later determined he was under the influence of alcohol.
The driver, 33-year-old Nicolette Ivy Duffus, remained at the scene. She was cited for driving with a suspended license, driving uninsured and failing to register a vehicle.
Police say Omar may be cited after the investigation is complete.
