PORTLAND, Ore. — A new pet can make a great gift for the holidays. The Oregon Humane Society has more than 130 dogs, cats, small animals and two horses who are looking for a new home this holiday season.

"What better way is there to celebrate the holidays than to adopt a pet who is most in need of a home?" OHS President Sharon Harmon said. "The love you'll feel from your new pet will be better than any present wrapped in a gift box."

The OHS lobby, located at 1067 Northeast Columbia Boulevard in Portland, will be decorated with showcase photos of all the pets available for adoption throughout December.

Those who aren't interested in adoption but would like to help can leave a gift for a shelter animal at the OHS Animal Giving Tree, or sponsor a pet at the shelter.
