The King County Board of Health unanimously passed a county-wide regulation prohibiting smokeless tobacco at all professional sporting events Thursday afternoon.

Players and fans won’t be able to use any tobacco products, including chewing tobacco, at CenturyLink or Safeco fields.

The measure, sponsored by King County Councilmember and Board of Health Chair Rod Dembowskis, has support from both the Seattle Mariners and the national advocacy group Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids.

Safeco Field is the 15th Major League Baseball Stadium in the country to go completely tobacco-free.
