PORTLAND, Ore. – Four people escaped a house fire early Friday morning.

Crews dispatched to the 5000 block of Northeast Alberta Street arrived to find big flames pouring out of the home. Tthere was a live power line down on a metal fence and a gas line was broken and feeding the fire.

Neighbor Bobby Wantz took video of the flames at their height.

“I just walked over in front of that house, I could feel the heat on my face hear the roar of the fire, it was really loud,” said Wantz.

Firefighters knew they couldn’t save the house, but successfully focused on protecting adjoining homes.

The cause remains under investigation. The Red Cross is helping the displaced residents.
