LINCOLN CITY, Ore. – All Lincoln City schools will remain closed Friday, but Lincoln City police said the threat that closed them turned out to be a hoax.

The Lincoln County School District says police and Taft High School got a written message Thursday night that raised concern of a possible school shooting.

That's when the school district decided to close the schools.

“At this time police are still investigating and we have decided to cancel all Lincoln City schools and Career Tech school for tomorrow, Friday, February 9th,” an alert on the school district website read.

Police say the closure impacts Taft High School, Taft Elementary School, Oceanlake Elementary School and Career Tech High.

Lincoln City police, Newport police, Toledo police, the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office, Oregon State Police and the Lincoln County District Attorney’s Office worked with the school district to investigate the threat.

Police interviewed almost 40 students overnight, and in the end determined the threat was not real.

"We look forward to seeing everyone back in school Monday morning," said a message from the Lincoln County School District.

Anyone with information about the threat is asked to call police at 541-574-5455.
