FAIRVIEW, Ore. – Multnomah County SWAT team members took a wanted man into custody Thursday night after a chase and hours-long search in Fairview.

The suspect, who was wanted in connection with a shooting in Washington, was found hiding inside a home near 6th Avenue and Lincoln Street.

As negotiators began communicating with the man, a single gunshot was heard inside the home. The sheriff's office said the man was still in communication with negotiators. SWAT team members entered the home and found the man. Medics began treating him and he was taken to a hospital. His specific injury was not released.

No officers were hurt.

The incident started at around 11:20 a.m. when authorities saw the suspect drive away from a Motel 6 in Troutdale. A pursuit followed, but the suspect crashed and fled on foot near Halsey Street and 217th Avenue.

Deputies closed Northeast Halsey Street from 207th to 223rd avenues during the search. People were advised to avoid the area.

Sheriff's deputies methodically searched homes and yards until the suspect was found. Neighbors were evacuated from their homes and put on TriMet buses to stay warm.

The suspect's name has not been released.
