Shots fired in NE Portland; police believe gang-related

Wednesday's shooting is the latest in what police believe are a string of gang-related shootings.

PORTLAND, Ore. – Shots were fired in Northeast Portland Wednesday afternoon but no victims were found, according to Portland police.

The shooting was reported at Northeast 122nd Avenue and Halsey Street at around 1:18 p.m.

Witnesses told police it appeared people in two different vehicles were firing at each other and then drove away. Evidence of gunfire was found at the scene.

The Gang Enforcement Team is investigating. Northeast Halsey Street is closed between 122nd and 126th avenues.

Wednesday's shooting is the latest in what police believe are a string of gang-related shootings. Police responded to three shootings Tuesday night and early Wednesday morning. On Tuesday afternoon, a man crashed his car in Northeast Portland after he was shot at by someone in a passing car. The man wasn't struck by any bullets, police said.

Last week, police said there have been 15-20 suspected gang shootings in Portland over the last month. Police believed 80 to 90 percent of them were tied to the homicide of Davonte Kerney in downtown Portland in February.
