MILL CITY, Ore. -- A woman who allegedly struck a 10-year-old girl and left the scene was chased down by a good Samaritan.
The girl was on the way to her school book fair about 6:30 p.m. Thursday when hit by a 2005 Dodge Caravan on Broadway Street, according to the Linn County sheriff's office.
Witnesses said the driver was going westbound about 30 to 35 mph when the child was struck. The driver first slowed, then sped from the scene. A witness chased her several blocks and the driver agreed to return and wait for police.
The child was first taken by ambulance to Salem Hospital, then to OHSU for surgery. She was expected to survive.
Natasha Marie Lynn Bodda, 20, of Mill City, was taken to the Linn County jail and held on accusations of DUII marijuana; failure to perform duties of a driver; second-degree assault; driving while suspended; driving uninsured, and failure to yield right of way.
