PORTLAND, Ore. — According to an Instagram post by Pip's Original Doughnuts & Chai Bar, a thief stole an original piece of art from the store and replaced it with a poorly painted replica.

Pip's told the story on its Instagram page, complete with a comparison of the original painting and the replacement.

"I picked up the original secondhand and while it wasn’t worth much monetarily, it originally resonated with me deeply," said the author of the Instagram post.

I found a picture that I took of the original artwork when I first acquired it. The original is on the left, the sad replica by the art thief is on the right. My mind is still completely blown that someone would go to this much effort to steal from us. Perhaps the original was actually a really valuable piece of art and I just wasn’t aware. But Ioved it, and I would really like to have it back.

You know, I thought I’d seen it all, but I was wrong. Someone painted a replica of the original piece of artwork we had hanging in our bathroom, replaced the original and left their fake piece in its place. It’s not a terrible job but they applied the paint super thick and it still smells fresh. Also they made a wooden/canvas using screws. Definitely lost the spirit of the original piece & when you look more closely you see the paint is just laid on super thick and without any soul. I picked up the original secondhand and while it wasn’t worth much monetarily, it originally resonated with me deeply. PLEASE BRING OUR ART HOME. 🙏🏽
