PORTLAND, Ore. -- A bicyclist was rushed to the hospital with life-threatening injuries after being hit by a vehicle in the Cully neighborhood Tuesday night.
Officers responded at 10:41 p.m. to Northeast Cully Boulevard and Killingsworth Street on a report of a traffic crash involving a bicycle rider and a driver.
Officers and medical personnel quickly began treating the bicycle rider, Alberto Canche-Mukel, 51, of Northeast Portland.
The driver, Ramon Benton, 34, of Northeast Portland, remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators.
Benton was eastbound on Killingsworth, entered the intersection and struck Canche-Mukel, who was northbound on Cully, police said.
The collision remains under investigation.
Due to the severity of Canche-Mukel's injuries, the Traffic Division's Major Crash Team is conducting the investigation. The intersection of Cully and Killingsworth was closed for several hours.
