PORTLAND, Ore — Bernie Sanders is not the leading candidate for the Democratic nomination nationally, but he is ahead of the pack in fundraising in Oregon.

The Vermont senator has raised $224,520 from Oregon residents in the 2020 election cycle. That puts him $32,614 ahead of his nearest rival, Sen. Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts, who has received $191,906 so far.

The Portland Business Journal this week is reporting Oregon's biggest donors to the leading presidential candidates. Yesterday we presented President Donald Trump's top donors this year, and today it is Sanders, the top fundraiser among the Democrats in the state. Later we will present data on donors to other leading Democrats.

Overall, Oregonians gave $862,862 to Democratic candidates for president in this election, compared with $538,397 for Republicans, according to the Federal Election Commission. Trump has raised the most of any candidate with $535,397.
