Parents upset with experience at Jurassic Tour at Jantzen Beach

"It was just disgusting," said one parent who attended the event with her 2-year-old.

JANTZEN BEACH, Ore. — Advertisements for Jurassic Tour promise an exciting dinosaur adventure with walking, moving dinosaurs. However, some parents said that is not what they experienced and felt the event does not deliver on what is advertised.

Jurassic Tour is in Jantzen Beach through Tuesday, inside the old Toys R Us building. A lot of the complaints we heard have to do with the building itself, but others have to do with the condition of the exhibit.

Daniella Gardner took her 2-year-old to the event and feels like she got ripped off.

"Yeah, the dinosaurs are really cool, they do move and make noises, that part of it I guess is what you advertise and what you see, but when you go around the corner and you see just the dirty bouncy houses and dirty toys that have parts missing, no, that was not what I was expecting," Gardner said.

Gardner also said the building itself was dilapidated.

"As we were standing there, kind of talking with other parents, we started noticing there were cigarette butts on the floor, there was just dust everywhere, my husband went to the bathroom and said it was the worst-smelling bathroom he's ever been in," Gardner said. "It was just disgusting."

Another parent who visited shared Gardner’s concerns and shot a YouTube video while there. In the video, he said, "It's a total freaking rip-off, the bathrooms are a freaking mess, this whole thing sucks."

If you do a search on Facebook and check the reviews on Yelp and the Better Business Bureau, there are dozens of similar complaints from across the country. This is an event that moves from city to city throughout the year.

The manager of Jurassic Tour said they do their best to clean the facility and said everything is as advertised.

"If somebody is going to want to complain, you know that's fine, we can take that as constructive criticism and try to make it better, but other than that, everything that we have here is good and everything is working," explained Jurassic Tour manager Mustafa Farran. "I'm not sure what all the complaints were about, but there was a lot of positive feedback that we got from a lot of people as well."

When we asked Farran if he thinks people are getting their money’s worth, he replied, "Honestly, we had a lot of people on their way out say thank you for doing this for the kids and we want to come back, so there were a lot of people who were satisfied, but some people just aren't going to be happy."

Farran also stressed the event is designed for kids, not adults.

"This event is mainly for children, 2 to 12 years old," Farran said. "They can read about the dinosaurs. They can see how they live and there's also activities for after they're done with the educational part, so it's pretty cool because all the kids love dinosaurs. It's something I loved as a kid and we try to bring it for the kids, so I just hope that people see the good in it instead of the bad and just let the kids enjoy it."

Another complaint we heard was about the rides for kids at the event. Those cost extra and are not included in the ticket price. That detail came as a surprise to many parents but Farran said that is all listed online and at the door when you walk in.
