Oregon Beer Showdown: Another top seed off to a slow start midway through the second round

After two No. 1 seeds — Widmer and Rogue — were knocked out in the first round, another top seed, Ninkasi, is off to a slow-ish second-round start.

PORTLAND, Ore. — Another Oregon Beer Showdown 2021 top seed is off to a slow-ish start as the bracket-style pick-your-favorites diversion reaches the second round's midway point.

As of Wednesday afternoon, Ninkasi was trailing No. 9 Barley Brown's Beer, with some 800 votes logged. You can see the difference by voting in the Showdown, in the link below.

Two No. 1 seeds — Widmer and Rogue — were already knocked out in the first round. The fourth No. 1 seed, Deschutes, has a big lead thus far in its matchup with Silver Moon Brewing.

The Showdown, presented by KGW and the Portland Business Journal, offers brackets through which beer lovers can vote for their favorite alemakers, in round-by-round fashion, leading up to The Bitter End (which is what we call the finals).

The early results may vary from the final postings, as repeat votes are tossed out per the Showdown's rules. More voting rules can be found here.

Winners will be tallied each week.

Other close contests so far this week include:

  • The tilt between Sunriver, a No. 5 seed, and No. 13 Wayfinder
  • The matchup between No. 8 Level and No. 16 Upright, the latter of which knocked out Widmer a week earlier

The second round this year ends at 11:59 p.m. on Nov. 21. Subsequent rounds will take place over the next six weeks. You can cast your vote by clicking on the survey link above.

The full bracket can be viewed below.
