Nike says a second senior executive is leaving company

The Journal said Nike had received complaints about Martin but no direct complaints about Edwards.

A second Nike executive has left the athletic footwear and apparel maker after a probe into inappropriate workplace behavior, it was reported Friday.

Jayme Martin, vice president and general manager of global categories for Nike, has departed, the Wall Street Journal reported. Martin was a top lieutenant to Trevor Edwards, the Nike brand president, who has left and officially retires in August.

The Journal said Nike, based in Beaverton, Ore., had received complaints about Martin but no direct complaints about Edwards.

In a public statement, CEO Mark Parker said Thursday that Edwards will remain as his advisor until he retires.

According to Journal, Parker also made an internal announcement in a memo. The memo did not specify what the complaints were about or whether they involved Edwards or other executives.

In Edwards case, Nike was acting on reports of "behavior occurring within our organization that do not reflect our core values of inclusivity, respect and empowerment," he wrote, according to the Journal. He saluted the "strong and courageous employees" who have come forward in recent weeks.

Also Thursday, Parker said he plans to stay on as chairman, president and CEO beyond 2020.

He said two executives will report directly to him. One is Elliott Hill, former president of Nike Geographies, who will have an enhanced role as president of consumer and marketplace. The other is Michael Spillane, who will continue to be in charge of categories, design, product and merchandising.

Since revelations last year of decades of alleged sexual harassment and assault by producer Harvey Weinstein, dozens of men across an array of industries, including entertainment, tech, media and finance have stepped down or been pushed out of companies for harassment. The long-accepted status quo for that those men, especially high performers, were given a free pass had been breached.
