PORTLAND, Ore. -- A different grocery store will occupy the Northeast Portland site where Trader Joe's dropped plans to build earlier this year, city of Portland officials said.

A Natural Grocers store will be the new anchor tenant at Northeast Martin Luther King Boulevard and Alberta Street.

City officials praised the chain for being community-centric and touted its focus on healthy food and free nutrition education.

Construction is expected to start in late fall.

Trader Joe's nixed plans for the site after neighbors raised concerns about gentrification.
