When you walk in the door at the Blanchet House of Hospitality, the first person you see is Jay. He's big, he's bearded and he looks like he could handle himself in a fight.

Talk with him for 30 seconds and you'll realize that his outward appearance could not be further from who he is. As the floor manager for the Blanchet House, Jay is responsible for passing out silverware and directing patrons to their seats -- a job which he does in a way that could make anyone smile.

Jay himself is a recovering alcoholic. His struggles with the disease led him down a path of darkness and eventually led him to the Blanchet program. However, through Blanchet Jay found a light and whether or not it's intentional, he shares it with everyone he meets.

In a world filled with scrutiny Jay has a very simple message -- don't judge other people. Instead treat them with the kindness that you would hope they show you, because at the core we are all the same. We are all people.
