PORTLAND, Ore. -- A 13-year-old Portland boy won his school science fair with a pair of glasses that helps his grandmother see better.

"I traveled to Denver to check out some specialized glasses but at $12,000 they were too expensive," said Marian Reekie. "When I told Christopher, he said he would make me a pair."

The 81-year-old is a patient at Casey Eye Institute and says her vision is very foggy from age-related macular degeneration.

The creation Christopher calls "Magniglass" shows promise for other patients.

"I was just glad they worked," said the 8th grader at OES. "It was great to win the science fair but even more important to help my grandmother."
