NEWPORT, Ore. – Next week, you’ll see some Oregon locals on the Discovery Channel, as the Newport, Oregon spin-off of the popular show Deadliest Catch launches Sept. 13.
The show is called Deadliest Catch: Dungeon Cove. Instead of featuring fishing boats busting through ice in Alaska in search of king crab, the Oregon version profiles six boats searching for Dungeness crab.
The Discovery Channel calls the ocean off the coast of Oregon and Washington the “Graveyard of the Pacific,” with a multitude of sandbars, currents and waves. The fastest boats stand to make the most money, so every day is a race to the finish.

“Our fishermen battle Mother Nature and competing vessels to maximize their landings and income while bringing these crabs to the marketplace,” a spokesperson for the show said in a press release.
Anyone who’s walked through historic downtown Newport will recognize the Pacific Seafood Group location that processes crab from four of the six boats. The iconic blue warehouses will appear prominently in the show, demonstrating how delicious Dungeness crabs get from the ocean and onto our plates.
Deadliest Catch: Dungeon Cove premieres Tuesday, Sept. 13 at 9 p.m. on the Discovery Channel.
