6 Oregon chefs compete in 'Blended Burger Project'

If you were served a burger made partially with mushrooms, would you even notice a difference?

Chefs around the country are "blending" burgers, replacing at least a quarter of the meat with chopped mushrooms. It's all for the Blended Burger Project, hosted by the James Beard Foundation, which runs from Memorial Day through July 31.

Not only does adding veggies into your burger provide a health benefit (turns out, mushrooms have less calories than beef...), but it is also more sustainable for the planet.

In Oregon, six restaurants are participating, so during the project, you can find a blended burger on the menu at Altabira City Tavern, Hamlet, Lincoln Restaurant, Loyal Legion, Deschutes Brewery and Nel Centro. Each chef will submit a picture of his or her blended burger, and customers can vote for their favorite. The five chefs with the most online votes will win a trip to the James Beard House in New York City, and get to cook their recipes at the James Beard Foundation Food Conference in October.
